A Better Future is Not Enough

If you’re going to die tonight, are you going to heaven? Or hell?

God is real. And so is heaven and hell.

If you believe in God and has received His gift of salvation, my hope for you is that you continue to live His love and be His light in the world. If you believe that He exists but haven’t come to know Him yet, I hope that you’d keep reading this.

And if you’re someone who is convinced that there’s no God, or you believe that there are many of them for some reasons I may not understand, I know that you’re already asking for an evidence to prove that bold statement above.

However, I will not dedicate this post for a list of evidences because there’s a big chance that my argument won’t win against yours. But I also hope that you’d continue to read and hear me out.

The world is very messy right now. We’re under this horrible pandemic and it has shed light to what really is in the hearts of the people, especially our leaders. Injustices, neglect for people, oppression, freedom being tampered, racism, name it. Evilness is showing up.

As a Christian, there’s no better time to represent Christ, share the gospel, and speak up for the people. There’s no better time to reflect the love of God to others by standing with the least. I, myself, have also been vocal about that. Speaking up in social media and in protest is an important way to be heard, and it has actually made a difference. I’m with you in this.

We’re fighting for a good governance, a better an excellent treatment for the citizens, a fair and right implementation of the law.

It all boils down to fighting for a better future. Fighting for a better future is indeed significant, not only for us, but for the next and future generations that will inhabit our world.

Yet as much as we seek to secure ourselves for a better future, let’s also seek to secure our soul after this lifetime. We can always expect to experience injustices, racism, oppression, etc., because of the consequences of sin that reside in this world. But there’s hope beyond hope for a better future. It’s a hope for a perfect life with a good and loving God, a body without sickness, no tears and pain, a joyful life, for eternity in heaven.

You might not believe that there is life after physical death just as much as you don’t believe in the bold statement above. But if you want and hope for a better future, why stop there? Why not want and hope for a perfect life for eternity?

Hear me in this. If there is indeed no God and no afterlife, then we both just vanish, become ash and be part of this world, and be stepped on hundreds of years from now. If there’s no God, my faith would be in vain, except that I have lived my life with joy and peace (which would be fake in this matter, but at least it would be a good mindset) with an imaginary god. But w’d be going to the same place.

But if there is indeed God who gives eternal life to those who believes in Him, then you’ll be missing the best thing there is and would spend the eternity in a horrible and painful environment.

With all honesty, if you decide to accept God to be your God, there’s nothing to lose, except your unbelief and pride. But that would be worth it to lose to gain joy, peace, eternal life, and above all, God. You might think you will lose control over your life, or you’ll start living a boring one, but that’s not true. Once you start living a life with God, you’ll see that it’s full of amazing adventures with joy and peace.

I can only say so much about that that you’re just going to dismiss that like a claim without proof. I got no evidence, except my own experiences. But isn’t that how life works sometimes? There will never be enough of an evidence to know how good the cake is, even when others around you say so, until you taste it yourself, not enough evidence to see that a destination is good, even with other’s testimony and after seeing a picture of it, until you get there yourself, or not enough evidence to say that the movie is great unless you see it for yourself? This is one of those times.

Other’s testimony will push you to believe that something exists. But you won’t get to experience the benefits of that thing until you get there and see for yourself.

It’s not that you get to see first before believing, but it’s to believe first before seeing. And then you experience it. I guarantee you that. For anyone who believes in God will taste and see His goodness (Psalm 34:8).

“But I don’t deserve to taste the cake.”

If you’re the person who’s thinking that way, let me tell you that nobody deserves God. Nobody deserves His goodness and His love, not even the kindest and most gentle person you’ve met in your life.

That is called grace. Grace is an unmerited favor. It is given to the undeserving. And we all are. There’s no better person. When you read the Bible, you’ll see that murder and disobedience to parents have the same weight. Liars, slanderers, thieves, racists, these are the same in the eyes of God—sin. It’s like a top view of many buildings, you can’t see the height differences, but they’re all buildings.

Whoever you are, whatever your background is, wherever you come from, God is available for you. Heaven is available for you.

“How can I receive Him?”

To have Him means to be saved from sin because sin keeps us away from the Holy God. There’s only one way be saved from our sins—Jesus. A sacrifice is needed to be done to pay for our sins. Because God loved the people so much, He sent His Son, Jesus, to die for us as a payment.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16

He paid the full price and nothing else can do it except Him. And three days later, He rose again to show His power and prove that He indeed is the Son of God. This is His way for us to be able to come to Him.

For us to receive, we only need to do one thing—have faith. With humility and surrender, believe that Jesus let His blood shed on the cross to save you from sin. Accept Him as your Savior and Lord.

If you want that, if you want Him in your life, pray this prayer with all your heart

Dear Father,

I thank you for the gift of life. I confess that I am a sinner and that I’ve done a lot of horrible things that are not pleasing to you. Indeed, I am in dire need of a savior and I cannot make it on my own without your help. This moment, I humbly accept Jesus as my savior. I believe that He died for my sins, He was buried and on the third day after, He rose again, confirming that He is Your Son. Thank You God for this salvation. Today, I ask for your help to make Jesus the center of my heart. Help me God change my heart so that I will be someone who you planned me to be.

This all I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

I hope that you prayed that prayer. If you want to think about it first, I hope that you will always remember His love and get back here when you’re ready, or talk to a Christian friend about it.

As much as we want a better future secured, we can be 100% be secured in heaven after this life. If you wanna know more about Jesus, you can read this.
